| Oracle Database Appliance - PoC and Support Services
The Oracle Database Appliance is a new way to take advantage of the world's most popular database—Oracle Database 11g—in a single, easy-to-deploy and manage system. It's a complete package of software, server, storage, and network that's engineered for simplicity; saving time and money by simplifying deployment, maintenance, and support of database workloads. All hardware and software components are supported by a single vendor—Oracle—and offer customers unique pay-as-you-grow software licensing to quickly scale from 2 processor cores to 24 processor cores without incurring the costs and downtime usually associated with hardware upgrades.
e-DBA provides Proof of Concept for Oracle Database Appliance
e-DBA Proof of Concept - we are offering a 2 week to trial of the new Oracle Database appliance within your organisation. e-DBA are one of the UK's 1st Oracle Platinum Partners to start to offer this and we are now taking bookings for the proof of concept box to be booked which will enable organisations to test ‘real world’ data, statistics and workloads as well as test performance and efficiency. We aim to help customers right from POC stage through to deployment in their production environment.

Oracle Database Appliance Specification - Hardware, Software, Networking, Storage, Built-in Availability
Hardware
- Servers - based on the SUN Fire X4370 M2
- 4U Rack unit
- 2 Server Nodes
- 24 3.5" SAS / SSD disk slots
- Each server contains 2 CPU sockets for Intel Xeon Processer X5675 CPU's providing up to 12 enabled on demand processor cores and 96GB of memory
Networking
- 2 server nodes are connected via an internal redundant 1-GbE interconnect for cluster communication
- Each server node also provide both 1-GbE and 10-GbE external networking connectivity ensuring the appliance will be compatible with any data centre regardless of their preferred networking technology
Storage
-
Shares 20 600GB SAS Hard Disk Drives between two server nodes that are tripled-mirrored to provide 4TB of highly available storage
-
Contains four 73GB SAS Solid State Drives for redo logs, triple-mirrored to protect the Oracle database in case of instance failure
-
The appliance manager in conjunction with Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) automatically configures, manages and monitors the disk performance and availability
-
The Oracle Appliance Manager provides alerts on performance and availability events as well automatically configures replacement drives in case of hard disk failures
Built in High Availability
- Triple mirrored database drives
- Redundant server nodes
- Redundant fans
- Internal redundant 1-GbE connectivity for Oracle RAC
- Redundant power supply units
- Two buffer chips that are each individually wired to each server node to eliminate single point of failure
- All wiring is internal to the chassis, reducing the chance of accidental cable pull
